Hunter Safety System X-1 Bowhunter Harness
The single most important piece of tree-stand gear, and it's cheap. A full-body harness is what turns a fall from fatal into a scare. The X-1 is a light, low-profile vest that won't be an excuse to leave it in the truck.
Strengths
- Light, low-profile vest you'll actually wear
- Meets the standard every stand hunter should hold to
- Doesn't interfere with a bow or crossbow
Trade-offs
- A harness alone doesn't protect you on the climb — add a lineman's belt and lifeline
- Must be worn and attached correctly to help
| Type | Full-body safety harness (vest) |
|---|---|
| Use | Tree stand + saddle hunting |
| Profile | Lightweight, low-bulk |
| Pair with | Lineman's belt + lifeline for the climb |
Worth knowing. A harness only helps if you're attached to the tree from the ground up — a lineman's belt on the climb and a lifeline on the trunk close the gap most falls happen in.
